Nintendo’s surprise Pikmin Day Direct made Nov. 1 an annual date for the series and outlined several releases. The roughly 10-minute presentation arrived Saturday, Oct. 31, with about 10 minutes of warning. Shigeru Miyamoto hosted the video and said the date’s three numeral ones resemble three Pikmin. “That makes November 1st Pikmin Day!” he said.
Nintendo said it will observe Pikmin Day every year starting in 2026. The first celebration followed the franchise’s 25th anniversary: the original Pikmin launched on GameCube on Oct. 26, 2001. The company marked the new occasion with a Nintendo Treehouse livestream on Sunday, after using the Direct to focus on games and animation rather than announcing a new game.
The presentation’s central game update was Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, scheduled to launch Nov. 12 for $69.99 in the United States. It builds on the original Switch release from 2023. On Switch 2, players can use the console’s built-in microphone to give commands to Oatchi and praise the companion after a job.
The edition also adds Dandori Academy, a mode where players race to collect treasure across stages. Nintendo described “dandori” as a Japanese term for planning and efficiency. Exams take place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The mode includes online leaderboards, medals and three difficulty levels. Nintendo said it plans to release 72 stages over time.
A free demo arrives Monday, Nov. 2, with the opening area and two Dandori Academy stages. Players who purchase the full game can transfer their demo save data. The timing puts a playable sample ahead of the Nov. 12 launch.
Pikmin Bloom will receive Secret Caves in a winter 2026 update, though Nintendo gave no specific date. The darker areas let players explore, battle familiar creatures and uncover hidden treasures. Pikmin move independently inside caves and begin fighting when they meet creatures. Players can direct attacks or whistle to call them back.
Cave Maps found in Pikmin Bloom and the new Switch 2 edition of Pikmin 4 provide access, linking the mobile update with the console release. Nintendo also promoted Pikmin Bloom Journey, a paid in-person event scheduled for Nov. 21-22 in Kobe, Japan.
The Direct introduced Hello! Pikmin, animated shorts made with Nintendo Pictures, the company’s animation studio. Japanese actress Fuka Koshiba will help promote the series and introduced its first short. Nintendo said another episode would follow the next day, with an additional installment later in November. Starting in December, the company plans to release a new short each month through its Nintendo Today mobile app.
The schedule gives fans several near-term dates across the console and mobile games, plus a continuing animation release. The demo is next on Nov. 2, followed by the full Switch 2 edition on Nov. 12. The Secret Caves remain planned for winter 2026.
